About Me
Well, instead of having this be an impersonal 'About Me' page, I'm going to make it a bit warmer.
My name is Erica. I've been writing since 8th grade, so it's been about seven years-probably a little longer. In that seven year period I've grown a lot, not just in my writing but also as a person. I believe these two personal improvements helped each other grow, like chocolate and caramel.
Life leads a person in mysterious ways, having always loved to read it seemed almost natural to have stepped into the wonderful world that is writing. I made many friends when I began going to youth writing groups; this is where I began to grow and find myself.
In my mind, a writer can never truly know what to write until they discover more about themselves. Through writing I found myself: my passions, my dislikes, and even what I wanted to do with my life. Which just so happens to be working with/in history; my love for historical-fiction narrowed down my search for the degree that I wished to study, and what I wanted to focus on in my writing.

Karen Russell author of: 'The Vampires in the Lemon Grove'
The most impressive thing about Karen Russell is her ability to take normal situations and create an abnormal story out of it. One of my favorite stories in this collection was 'Reeling for the Empire', it is about this group of young girls who had been tricked by a European tradesmen into coming to work at a silk factory. The silk factory however is not what it it seems He gave them a tea which turned them into humanoid silk worms, which cases the girls to eventually transform into real silkworms. She took an event, like making young girls work in factories, into a fantastical story of factory workers revolting against unsafe and cruel work environments.
